Ronnie Smith

Ronnie "Smitty" Smith, a man whose warmth and dedication touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully at the age of 69. Born in 1955. Ronnie was the cherished son of Marvin and Henrietta Smith and older brother Mike (Joanie) Smith. His early years were spent in the Crowley District, where he attended the country school until 1967. He continued his education at Lennox High School in Lennox, South Dakota, graduating in 1973.

Life truly blossomed for Ronnie when he met and married the love of his life, Dawn Wilson, on May 20, 1978. Together, they built a beautiful life on a farm a few miles east of Lennox, where their greatest pride and joy, their children Jason (Jessica) and Rebecca "Becky" (Helge) Norvang, were raised. Their family grew to include four amazing grandchildren: Rylee and Sophie Smith, and Patrick and Mila Norvang, who brought immense joy to Ronnie's life.

Ronnie dedicated 40 years to a fulfilling career in feed manufacturing, first at Zip Feeds and later at Hubbard Feeds in Sioux City, Iowa. His commitment and strong work ethic were evident throughout his long tenure. Even after "retiring" from the feed industry, Ronnie's adventurous spirit led him to obtain his CDL and embark on a new chapter driving for Smith Trucking in Sioux City.

Summers held a special magic for Ronnie and Dawn, as they embraced their retirement at Leech Lake. There, they created cherished memories with good friends, fishing on the tranquil waters and enjoying rounds of golf together, savoring the simple pleasures of their hard-earned leisure.

Beyond his work and hobbies, Ronnie was a longtime and often frustrated, yet ever-loyal, fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He shared the highs and lows of each season with unwavering enthusiasm, a testament to his enduring spirit.

Ronnie (Smitty) Smith will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Dawn, his children Jason (Jessica) and Becky (Helge), his treasured grandchildren Rylee and Sophie Smith, and Patrick and Mila Norvang, and his brother Mike (Joanie), along with all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind heart, dedication to his family, and zest for life will forever be remembered.

A Celebration of Life gathering will he held on Friday, April 18th from 11AM to 1PM at the Prosper Country Warehouse & Event Hall located at 46620 278th Street in Lennox South Dakota.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in Ronnie's name.
