Ronald V. "Ron" La Croix, 75, of South Sioux City, passed away on August 6, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 12, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Ron was born on September 27, 1948, in Sioux City, the youngest of eight children born to Peter H. and Agnes P. (Boucher) La Croix. Education played a crucial role in Ron's life. He attended Saint Boniface School K-8 from 1953 – 1962, before graduating from Heelan High School in 1966. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a BS Degree in Business and Economics from Morningside College in 1976. Ron married Marlene Newman on September 6, 1969, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The couple was just shy of celebrating 55 years of a wonderful and blessed marriage.
Ron served as an Army Veteran during the Vietnam War with H Troop 17th Calvary and E Troop 1st Calvary from August 1968 to April 1970. His bravery was recognized with two Purple Hearts, an Army Commendation Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars for his selfless service to his country.
Throughout his career, Ron demonstrated exceptional work ethic and passion in various roles. He began his professional journey as a Meat Manager for Sunshine Foods in September 1964 and continued to excel in positions at Super Value Foods from 1991-1994, Team Ford from 1994-2005, assistant manager for Wal-Mart from 2005-2010, and Durham School Safety Manager and Bus Driver for South Sioux City from 2010 until his well-deserved retirement in October of 2019.
Passionate about service and faith, Ron was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City since 1978, serving as lector and eucharistic minister. He dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Boy Scout Leader from September 1981 until 2015 and Assistant Scout Master for Troop 149 in South Sioux City. Ron's involvement extended to various leadership roles within the organization where he positively impacted the lives of many young scouts. Ron also was a former District Round Table Commissioner, a member of the District Training Staff, Vigal Memer OA, and Woodbadge Staff.
Ron's proudest accomplishments included receiving the Founders Award from Order of the Arrow, District Award of Merit, and the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for his exceptional contributions and service.
In addition to his remarkable career achievements and community involvement, Ron cherished moments spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Marlene La Croix of South Sioux City; son Ronald V. La Croix Jr. and wife Marci K. of South Sioux City; daughter Krista R. Benson and husband David K. of Hornick, IA; grandchildren Tarynn J. Law, Thomas N. Tramp and wife Elissa, and Andrew D. Benson; along with a brother Emery La Croix of Omaha, NE.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Agnes La Croix; and siblings: Marie Bertrand, Helen McCarthy, JoAnn Cruse, Norma Jaminet, Peter La Croix, and Francis La Croix.
Ron led a remarkable life filled with service, commitment, and a deep-rooted sense of community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and those whose life Ron touched.
