Ronald R. “Ron” Grove, 87 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. Ron was born on January 6, 1937 in Colby, Kansas to Jacob A. and Mabel (Craige) Grove. He graduated high school in Colby in 1955. After high school, Ron worked various jobs in Kansas before working as a clerk for the FBI in Washington, D.C. In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1962, Ron returned working for the FBI in Washington, D.C. before taking a position at the Kansas City, Missouri FBI office in October of 1962.
Ron met his future wife, Bess E. Bierbaum, who also worked for the FBI. They were married on May 7, 1963 in Miami, Oklahoma. Ron attended 9 years of college at night while working days for the FBI, and raising their family in Kansas City, Missouri. In June of 1972, Ron became an FBI agent. Ron and Bess were later transferred to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rapid City, South Dakota, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Troy, Michigan, then eventually to Sioux City, Iowa, where he retired. Ron enjoyed 37 years with the FBI. He was very committed to this work and proud to be a part of the law enforcement community.
Ron was a member of the St. Thomas Masonic Lodge since 1962 in Colby, Kansas. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 32 Degree, Masonic Body, American Legion, and Society of Former FBI Agents.
Ron is survived by his two daughters, Cathy S. Thayer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Stacy E. (Kenneth) Mol of Spencer, Iowa; three grandchildren Grant (Fiancé Bailey) Thayer, Drew Thayer, and Kayla Mol; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bess in 2008, three sisters, Genevieve Grove, Lorraine Neal, and Jean Markham, and one brother Warren Grove.
