Roland “Ronnie” Stabile, 66, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at his residence.
Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, which will be led by Father David Hemann, and will conclude with military rites being performed by the United States Army Honor Guard.
Ronnie was born December 31,1957 in Sioux City, the son of John and Yvette “Betty” (Seavey) Stabile and was raised in the Catholic faith.
He married Joann (Stusse) Stabile on February 22, 1974, in Elk Point, SD. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary last week.
He graduated high school in Sioux City and entered the U.S. Army in January of 1975. Ronnie served with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany, among other stateside duty stations over his 13-year career in the Army and Army Reserves.
He spent most of his working career at Morningside College, working in the maintenance department for over 30 years. Ronnie specialized in plumbing and boiler maintenance, while serving as the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor. He won the Thomas S. Thompson Staff Excellence Award in 2005 and 2018 while at Morningside. He retired from the college on December 15, 2022.
Ronnie enjoyed working on pretty much anything that needed fixed. He enjoyed rehabbing rental properties that he owned through the years and had a passion for classic cars. A few that he enjoyed included his 1970 Dodge Challenger, 1956 Chevy Wagon, 1959 Chevy Impala, and 1965 Chevy Impala SS, which he was currently restoring. During retirement, he also enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with his family. In the tradition of his Italian heritage, he enjoyed feeding anyone who walked into his home. It was impossible to leave the Stabile house hungry!
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Ron (Kelli) Stabile of Tampa, FL and Mike (Stephanie) Stabile of Sioux City. A sister Robbie (Jeff) Ray, two brothers Coni “Robert” Stabile, and Joe (Vickie) Stabile, a sister-in-law, Debbie Stabile, all of Sioux City, and a brother-in-law, Kevin (Cherie) Stusse of Arlington, TX. He also had 5 grandchildren that were the highlight of his life, Alyssa, Tony, Adelyn, Hadley, and Piper Stabile, and he was survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. His Yellow Lab, Louie, was by his side until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Marty and Lois Stusse, a sister Rosemary (Stabile) Uhl, brothers John and Frank Stabile, an infant brother Robert Stabile, along with a niece and several nephews. Ronnie was also preceded in death by his dog, Marley, who was also his best buddy!
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandson Tony Stabile, nephews Frank, Nick, and Joey Stabile, and family friend, Chad Sorgdrager.
Ronnie made friends with every dog that he met, so it is fitting that memorials be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society.
