Roger Ross Van Fossen, 87, of South Sioux City, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2023 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with Father Michael Keating officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Roger was born on May 10, 1935 to Ross and Clara Van Fossen.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, receiving many awards for his accomplishments as a sniper. He loved telling stories about his time spent when he was stationed in Germany. He was a man of many talents. He was a truck driver for many years before becoming an Ironworker.
He married Ann Jansa in 1962. They had four children: Pat, Loren, Amy and Jo. Ann died in 2002, the couple would have been married 40 years when she passed.
He married Jean Bird in 2006. Roger enjoyed gardening, competing in Tractor Pulls, and mirrored his life around Tim Taylor from Home Improvement; working in his garage and on his many home projects. He also enjoyed camping and snowmobiling, but most of all he loved spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Bird. His children Pat (Stacy) Van Fossen of South Sioux City, Amy (Tom) Love of Jackson, NE, Jo (Dennis) Barkley of LeMars, IA. Three brothers, Neal of Rosemead, CA, Curtis of Dakota City NE and Dennis of Lincoln, NE. Grandchildren, Trisha, Travis, Clara, Heath and Jeff. Great Grandchildren, Xavian, Liam, Ryker and Brylee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, his parents Ross and Clara, and his son Loren Van Fossen.
