Roger Darold Rogge of Danbury, Iowa was born May 18, 1942 and passed from this world on August 18, 2024. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m., with sharing of memories at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
He graduated from Danbury High School in 1960 and attended Barber College in Sioux City, Iowa. This vocation took him to California where he practiced with his uncle in Moorpark, California. In July 1966 he joined the Army serving his country until June 1968. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Thailand as a Movement Specialist and earned the National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Upon honorable discharge, he then went on to college earning his Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, graduating in 1973. In his first year of college, he met and married his wife, LuAnn Poynter Rogge of Petersburg, Minnesota. They were blessed with a daughter, Amelia (Amy) in 1970 and their son, Lorn in 1977.
Roger taught and coached in the school systems of Prairie of Gowrie and Central Webster of Burnside, Iowa from 1973-1982. In 1982 he and his wife LuAnn, purchased a Drive Inn Restaurant in his home town of Danbury, Iowa and operated “Rogge’s Inn” from 1982 – 1997. In 1997 Roger became the Nursing Home Administrator for the Verdigre Nursing Home in Verdigre, Nebraska serving in that capacity from 1997-2011 when he retired.
Roger had many talents and hobbies of which his all-time favorite was watching his grandkids in their different sporting events. His Children and Grand Children were his world. He was looking forward to his Great Grand Daughter to be born September 2024, but God had other plans for him to enjoy this event.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, LuAnn, and their daughter Amy (Mark) Moes and their children Cameron (Alyssa), Cole (Kennedy),Kiera and Korrine Moes, and son Lorn(Trixie) Rogge and their children Michael, Nicholas and Max Rogge. Two sisters, Leah Drews of Marcus, Michelle (Tom) Gannon of Vermillion and a brother Doug(Connie) from Rockwall, Texas and sister-in-laws, Shannon Rogge, Sandy Richardson and brother-in-laws Adrian Poynter, Steven (Deb)Poynter and many nieces, nephews and numerous family and friends.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Lorn Rogge, his mother and Father-in-Law, Paul and Lucille Poynter, his brother Bill Rogge, brother-in-law Kenny Richardson, Bob Smith & Robert Barrick, Sisters in law, Phyllis Poynter, Katy Smith and two great grandchildren.
Because of many health issues Rog said, “At 82, if it ends today, I will have lived a good life”
He left us a legacy of love and we were richly blessed to have shared his life
