It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roger Edward Miller (83), a cherished father, grandfather, and friend. Roger was the cornerstone of his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Roger was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to parents Edward and Evelyn (Eriksen) Miller. He lived his entire life in Homer, Nebraska, where he was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Homer High School, where he met his future wife, Theresa Hough. The two were married on June 2, 1961, and together raised three daughters.

Roger and Theresa also welcomed a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Claudia Olivera, into their home. Claudia became like a daughter to them, lovingly calling Roger “Dad.” They remained close through visits and video calls over the years.

Roger began his career at Broyhill in Dakota City, Nebraska, as a skilled welder and fabricator. If he could envision something, he could create it. He later worked at FIMCO for many years before retiring to his childhood home on the family farm.

Throughout his life, Roger enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He rarely missed an activity and often volunteered as a coach. He and Theresa were once honored as “Grandparents of the Year” at Homer Hoopla Daze.

Roger’s home was never empty—his grandchildren often spent the night, sometimes for more than one! The family shared countless memories together, including camping trips to Minnesota and Snyder’s Bend.

Roger loved to hunt and fish. Whether it was deer or turkey, he had all the equipment to make each outing a memorable one. The trophies of his hunts still hang proudly on the walls of his home, filling nearly every room with memories.

Roger’s last few years were not easy, as he was no longer able to leave his home or do the things he loved most. However, these years were brightened by the companionship of his dog, Barney, and the care and friendship of Kelli Hirsch and her family. Kelli and her daughter, Falyn, spent many evenings with Roger—helping with whatever he needed and offering their friendship. Heath Harris and her mother, Donna, were also dear friends who often checked on him and shared many games of cribbage together.

Roger is survived by his loving family, including his sister Janice Brendle; daughters Christy (Tony) Josta, Jody Wingert, Kathy (Todd) Rosener, and Claudia (Marcos) Olivera; grandchildren Andrew (Riley) Stolze, Abbie (Adam) Uhl, Jenny (Matt) Handlos, Abbigail (Luis) Escobedo, Aaron (Dena) Wingert, Sara (Jared) Fouts, Taylor (Brian) Kenagy, Samantha (Chance) Bernstrauch, Garrett (Jax) Holgate, Alex (Kelly) Holgate, Jacob (Kaitlyn) Luiken, Maddie Rosener, and Ayden Rosener; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and dear friends Kelli and Falyn Hirsch and Heath Harris.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Miller, and his parents, Edward and Evelyn Miller.

The family wishes to thank all who showed kindness, care, and friendship to Roger in his later years. His legacy of love, humor, and hard work will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
