Roger J. Doelle

June 14, 1941 — August 22, 2020

Roger J. Doelle, 79 of South Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at a local hospital. No public services will be held at this time. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Roger was born on June 14, 1941 in Arcadia, Wisconsin. On September 28, 1963 he married Susan Kratz in Winona, Minnesota. The two shared 57 years of marriage before Roger’s passing. Although Roger relocated often for his job, he lived the last 50 years of his life in South Sioux City, NE, where he and Sue truly felt was “home.”

He worked for Swift’s & Company for 25 years before opening the Chicken Depot in South Sioux City, which he owned and operated for 30+ years.

In his free time, Roger could be found watching the news, watching (and re-watching) old Western movies, or cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. He loved going deer hunting and took an annual fishing trip each year to Wisconsin with family; he also enjoyed going to casinos with his wife. He loved a good argument, and could talk politics with anyone and everyone. He always enjoyed hanging out with his “little man,” Trent. Throughout his life Roger always had dogs; most recently, he had Tina, Snickers, and his favorite, Spanky.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Sue of South Sioux City; 3 children: Duane Doelle of South Sioux City, Jesse Doelle of South Sioux City, and Stacey Brand of Des Moines; son-in-law, Jason Krommenhoek of Des Moines; grandson, Trent Brand of Sioux City; two brothers: Doyle (Janet) of Wisconsin, and Larry of Texas; three sisters: Joyce of Iowa, Cheyenne of Minnesota, and Sherri of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Elvira Doelle; two brothers: Bernie and Mike; and a sister, Mari.
