Rodney T. "Rod" Rentel

May 16, 1957 — November 21, 2025

Sioux City

Rodney T. “Rod” Rentel, 68 of Sioux City passed away Friday, November 21, 2025. A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church.

Rodney was born the son of Thomas and Caroline (Udell) Rentel on May 16, 1957 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School and then from Morningside College. Rod married Nancy Goodwin on December 30, 1978. Together they raised two children and were blessed with 52 years together.

Rod worked for LeGrand & Co. before owning and operating Rentel Appraisal Inc. for many years.

At his core, Rod was a family man. He cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was also a big sports fan. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan who despised the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed coaching his son, Nick in all of his athletics growing up, especially hockey. Rod liked keeping his yard looking nice and was often outside doing yardwork or mowing. He was excited to try all different kinds of food and usually didn’t have too much to say about its taste.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Rentel of Sioux City; children, Alison (John) Rentel Lacska of Stillwater, MN and Nicholas (Renee) Rentel of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Bennet, Grayson, Ritter, Washington, and Amelia; mother, Caroline Rentel; siblings, Julie Cook and Kevin (Susan) Rentel; brother-in-law, Terry Goodwin; sister-in-law Kaye Albers, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Wayne Albers; sister-in-law, Colleen Goodwin; and father, Thomas Rentel.
