Rod A. Lund

June 14, 1950 — October 17, 2023

Newcastle

Rod A. Lund, 73 of Newcastle passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 after a short battle with dementia. A Celebration of Life will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, October 23, 2023 at Mohr Funeral Home, 218 N East Street, Ponca, NE 68770. Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place and no additional service will be held.

Rod was born on June 14, 1950 in Newcastle, Nebraska, the son of Palmer and Elsie (Martinsen) Lund. He graduated from Newcastle High School in 1968. He married Linda Wiebelhaus on July 22, 2006. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 43 years.

Rod was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his huge tomato crop. He also liked hunting, fishing, golfing, EVERYTHING river related, boating, swimming, skiing, camping, and relaxing. He had many toys, as he called them, several new pickups, several new ATVs, and several new speed boats over the years. The faster the better. His very favorite he dubbed the “Silver Bullet”.

He spent as much time as possible on the Missouri River. He was a real “water baby”. It was his favorite place to be. Rod loved his wife, Linda and all his friends and family dearly, especially his devoted, caring and committed cousins. He was also committed and loyal to his beloved dogs.

Rod is survived by his wife, Linda Lund of Laurel, NE; sister, Linda (Carrol) Fountain of Lincoln, NE; seven nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; stepdaughters, Christi Sterling, Brenda Anderson, and Alissa (James) Bottos; many friends; and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Elsie Lund; sister, Sheryl Anderson; and brother-in-law, Bob Anderson.

We will all miss his big heart, silly sense of humor, and love of life. He was definitely considered a small town good ol boy! Rest in peace “Hot Rod”.
