Robert Charles “Bob” Steffe, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love, kindness, and friendship. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the service to follow at 10:00 a.m. which will include Military Honors offered by American Legion Post 307 of South Sioux City, Nebraska. A luncheon will be held following the service at Horizon Restaurant, 1220 Tri View Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa. Interment will be at the Arlington Cemetery, Moville, Iowa, at a later date.
Bob was born on May 13, 1949, to Hilburn Steffe, Jr. and Mary Lou (Lacy) Steffe. He graduated from Hinton High School in 1967. Following graduation, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, stationed in New York during the Vietnam War.
On June 16, 1975, Bob married Barb LaCroix, and together they raised two children, Brandon and Erin. Although their lives eventually took different paths, they remained united in their love and dedication to their children and family.
Throughout his life, Bob was a hardworking and dedicated man who valued the relationships he built along the way. He worked on the family farm and held positions at Valley State Bank, MCI, and Maggie's Mini Mart, and numerous other jobs before retiring from Telco Triad Community Credit Union.
In the fall of 2022, Bob met his fiancée, Donnette Hatch, and the two shared a loving and meaningful relationship until his passing. Together, they enjoyed a companionship filled with shared interests, new experiences, and lasting memories. Bob and Donnette were both active in the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, the Lifelong Learning Program at Western Iowa Tech, and Tri-State Writers. They also shared a love for antiques, dancing, Broadway shows, and symphony performances.
Bob had a true appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He was passionate about classic cars, classic rock music, and flowers. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, sharing stories, and spending time with the people he loved. He found joy in good company, meaningful conversations, and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
More than anything, Bob will be remembered as an incredibly loving and caring man. He had a kind heart and genuinely valued all the people in his life. He leaves behind memories of time spent together, milestones celebrated, and the quiet, everyday moments that become even more precious with time. Bob’s love for his family was a lasting part of who he was, and the relationships he nurtured throughout his life are a reflection of the man he will always be remembered as.
Bob is survived by his son, Brandon (Brianna) Steffe; his daughter, Erin (Craig) Kimbell; his grandchildren, Abraxas Luvelle, Camdyn Steffe, Bristol Steffe, Jamison Kimbell, Samantha Kimbell, and Coryn Kimbell; and a great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by his fiancée, Donnette Hatch; his sister, Barb Taylor; his lifelong friend, Barb Steffe; his nieces, Becky, Amy, and Jenny; his nephew, Ronnie; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilburn Steffe, Jr. and Mary Lou (Lacy) Steffe; his sister, Mary “Tooty” (Steffe) Vugteveen; and his grandparents.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who cared for Bob during his final weeks. Their kindness, compassion, and loving care provided comfort, dignity, and peace to Bob and his family during an incredibly difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, an organization that brought Bob much enjoyment, friendship, and connection.
