Robert L.
Wittrock
Jun 12, 1948 — Sep 11, 2026
South Sioux City, Nebraska
Robert “Bob” Wittrock, 78, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1948, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will occur at Memorial Park Cemetery following the luncheon.
Bob attended Riverside High School and went on to live a life marked by service, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors. He served in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969, and later in the United States Coast Guard from 1971 until 1989. During his years in the Coast Guard, while serving in Alaska, Bob's experiences became the setting for many of the stories his family would remember so fondly. He also worked at Iowa Beef Packing.
He was someone who loved to fish and who truly enjoyed time with his family. Bob found happiness in fishing, cooking, and in hunting in Alaska while serving in the United States Coast Guard. His family will long remember his stories of being on an icebreaker in Alaska, hunting bears, and fishing for halibut. He also dearly loved his dogs, Carmels, whose companionship brought him comfort and joy.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Shirley Wittrock; his wife, Thomalene; his brother, Rodney “Fuzz”; and his sister, Valerie “Bo.”
He is survived by his brother, Richard Lamkin and his wife, Mary; his sisters, Linda Graves and Debbie Copenhaver and her husband, Alan; and by a loving circle of nieces and nephews: Bill Lamkin, Lucinia Borgen, Melaney Dittler, Dan Wittrock, Angi Wittrock, Tony Condos, Jerry Condos, Keith Copenhaver, Rebecca Copenhaver, and Aaron Post. He will be remembered with affection by his family for the time they shared together, the stories he told so well, and the steady presence he brought to their lives.
Bob’s life was one of service, adventure, and simple joys. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and lasting warmth to the family who loved him.
