Robert L. “Bob” Petty, 77, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at a local care facility. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Bob was born on January 10, 1943 in Los Angeles, California to Milton and Arlene (Blum) Petty. The family moved to Sioux City when Bob was three months old, where he stayed through the remainder of his life. He attended Heelan High School, and went on to serve a four-year electrical apprenticeship through the Local IBEW Union 231 in Sioux City.
He married Patricia “Pat” Barr at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City on February 23, 1962.
After serving his apprenticeship, Bob became a Journeyman Electrician with the local IBEW Union, and worked at many of the electric companies in Sioux City. He was a proud member of the Local IBEW Union 231 for his entire working career. His final position was serving almost 15 years as the head electrician at the Mid-American building through Thompson Electric Company.
In his free time, Bob loved vacationing with his family, camping, and hunting and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed tinkering in his shed and on his yard; he especially loved taking his grandchildren to Stone Park early on Saturday mornings to look for deer.He was known for his “pearls of wisdom,” which he passed on to his children and grandchildren often. Bob was a very hardworking man, who loved his family and friends dearly.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat Petty of Sioux City; his children: Scott Petty (Teresa) of Le Mars, and Sheri Knight (Delton) of Sioux City; grandchildren: Troy, Sara (Jacob), Madison, Dustin, Tyler (Kylie), and Lindsey; and great-grandchildren: Briyah, Bryleigh, Leena, Carrie, Jason, Alice, Mollie, Dylan, Kenton, and Kaisley; and his sister, Mary Julia Kirkegaard (Wayne) of Lenexa, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milt Petty; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Petty; and a great-granddaughter, Kyndall Petty.
