Bob was born on August 3rd, 1926 in Vermillion, South Dakota to Ole and Clara (Brunick) Larson. He graduated from Meckling High School,  went on to graduate from Augustana College, served two years in the army during the Korean War, and then got his Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado.

On July 19th, 1953 he married his devoted wife, Margaret Michel. They were blessed with five children, Kristi, David, Kent, Tim, and Bob.

Bob took an interest in music at an early age. He started taking piano lessons from a lady on a neighboring farm and by the time he reached the 5th grade, he was playing the piano for his Sunday School and giving piano lessons to his cousins for 25 cents a lesson. Later in high school, he took further instruction every week from an instructor at South Dakota University in Vermillion.

Bob was passionate about his teaching of music. He wanted everyone to get their chance to both learn and enjoy music and possibly even go on with a music career.  He taught at Central High School for 14 years and then another 16 years at North High School. He was instrumental in putting together many wonderful broadway musicals, choir trips, and later the Madrigal dinners.  He made it fun and special for so many of his students.

Bob was also a devoted husband and father. He supported his family in everything they did. When his family was young, it was not uncommon for him to work multiple jobs in the summer so that his family could have some opportunities that went beyond a teacher’s salary.

Left to carry on his legacy is his wife of 69 years, Margaret; his children, Kristi (Russ) Nelson in Omaha, NE, David (Michelle) Larson in Sioux City, IA, Kent (Kay) Larson in Des Moines, IA, Tim (Lori) Larson in Sisters, OR, Bob (Cheryl) Larson in Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Ready to greet him in heaven are his parents Ole and Clara, his brother Gene (Arlene) Larson, his brother Donny Larson, his father-in-law Jerome (Ida) Michel, his sister-in-law Carol (Robert) Vagts, and his sister-in-law Winnie (Roger) Halweg.
