A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Holy Cross – St. Michael Catholic Church. Bob was born on February 17, 1945, in Temple, Texas, the son of Robert Thomas and Gladys (Paulsen) Chesher. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1964. Following graduation, Bob proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country for four years, including two tours in Vietnam. His service to his country was something he carried with pride throughout his life.
On September 11, 1971, Bob married the love of his life, Priscilla Janice Hutchinson, in Sioux City. Together, they built a life centered around family and were blessed with three children. Through the years, their family continued to grow, bringing Bob the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Bob spent more than 40 years working at IPB. He also worked as a bricklayer and later as a bus assistant for the Sioux City Community School District. No matter the job, Bob believed in working hard, doing things right, and providing for the people he loved.
In his younger years, Bob enjoyed playing Floyd Softball and bowling. He was an avid fisherman and a loyal sports fan who proudly cheered on the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He also took tremendous pride in his yard and could spend countless hours working to make sure his grass was just right.
More than anything, Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Whether you knew him as Bob, Mud Cat, or BJ, those fortunate enough to know him will remember the hardworking, one-of-a-kind man behind the nicknames. His greatest legacy lives on in the family he loved and the many memories they created together.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Priscilla Chesher; his children, Vonda (Kerwin) Hilliard of Onawa, Iowa, Cynthia “Cindy” Chesher of Dakota City, Nebraska, and Sean Chesher of Sioux City; grandchildren, Nicole Chesher, Dalton Chesher, Emily Chesher, Sabrina Rose, Vivica Chesher, Eve Chesher, Kerwin “JR” Hilliard, and Ke'Von Hilliard; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Lisa) Chesher of Sergeant Bluff and Jeff Chesher of Sioux City; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gladys Louise Chesher; and his brothers, Patrick “Pat” Chesher and Thomas “Tom” Chesher.
Bob’s life was one of service, hard work, faith, family, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he has entered into the Lord’s hands and that the stories, laughter, lessons, and love he shared will remain with them always.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Chesher, Ke'Von Hilliard, Michael Paul Chesher, Zachary Chesher, Beto Gengler & Bob Holsinger. Honorary Pallbearers are Kerwin "Jr" Hilliard and Gary Cook.
