Robert "Bob" Mark Lee, 86, of Dakota City, NE, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Sioux City, IA. Born on October 24, 1938, Bob lived a life characterized by unwavering dedication to his family and profession, touching the lives of countless individuals through both his architectural endeavors and musical talents.
Bob's journey began in Sioux City, where he was raised by his parents, Mark and Marie (Donner) Lee. He graduated from Heelan High School with the Class of 1957, thereafter pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Architecture at Iowa State University. His career in architecture started in high school at William Lee Beuttler Architects, laying the groundwork for a lifelong vocation. He returned to Sioux City after college, where he worked at William Lee Beuttler Architects and later became a partner. In 1982, he established RML Architects LLC. His commitment to his craft earned him the distinction of being the longest-serving architect in Sioux City, a testament to both his skill and steadfastness in the field.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob’s heart was deeply intertwined with family. He married his high school sweetheart, Anita Vorel, in 1958, and together they raised three children: Krista, Erika, and John. They opened their hearts and home to several teenage foster children, including Todd Babb and Robert Campbell and were like second parents to Charlie Knoche, further embracing the spirit of family. Bob and Anita cherished their time together until her passing in 1999. Later, he found companionship with Joan Worden, and in 2017 they were married and shared many joyful moments until her passing in 2020.
Bob was a man renowned for his kindness, gentleness, and integrity. He possessed a wealth of knowledge and had a passion for reading, particularly enjoying World War II history. He loved dogs, playing games, boating, old cars, and model trains. Music wove through the fabric of Bob's life as well; he played the piano with local groups such as the Dixie Daddys and Monona Country, often sharing his love for music with nursing home residents across the Siouxland area. Many cherished memories were forged at the family lake house on Big Spirit, where they enjoyed time together.
Family remained the cornerstone of Bob's life. He took great pride in his children: Krista (Dwight Vick) Lee, Erika (Richard) Worrell, John (Chana) Lee, Susan (Mike Davies) Lee, and Todd Babb; grandchildren: Ryan (Allison) Worrell, Jacob (Michele) Lee, David (Amber Mondragon) Vick, Davidson (Megan) Wissing, and Jillian Lee; great-grandchildren: Braden Worrell, Cade Worrell, Riley Worrell, Peyton Lee, Ayden Vick, and Mildred Wissing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Marie Lee; his spouses, Anita Lee and Joan Worden-Lee; and his foster child, Robert Campbell.
