Robert "Bob" John Bohan passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia that affected his quality of life for the last five years. He was born on January 23, 1940, in Sioux City, IA, the son of John and Irene (Heger) Bohan. Bob graduated from Sioux City East High School and dedicated his life to his family and career. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Kay Tuttle, and together they welcomed three sons: Rob, Bryan, and Brad.
Bob, with his brother Bill, was the owner and operator of Bohan's Furniture and Mattress Co., where he worked alongside his family, showcasing his talents as a master craftsman. His dedication to his business spanned 44 years. In addition to his business accomplishments, he served in the Air National Guard.
Family was the cornerstone of Bob's existence. Throughout his life, Bob was known for his quiet strength and unwavering support for those around him. He embodied the role of "Mr. fix it," always willing to lend a helping hand and assist others. His devout Catholic faith guided him, as he made it a priority to attend weekly Mass, living his life by example. Bob was an athlete at heart, engaging in various sports with enthusiasm, and maintaining a commitment to fitness through exercising such as jogging, long walks, and hiking. He took pride in his beautifully manicured yard and enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was working in the garden, boating, or waterskiing with the Sioux City Ski Club.
Bob's vibrant spirit was characterized by the cherished memories he created, from candle-lit Valentine’s Day dinners to joyful New Year’s Eve celebrations, always ensuring that those around him felt special on their birthdays. He possessed a love for sweets, rarely missing the opportunity for ice cream at night.
Bob volunteered for Meals on Wheels in his retirement, demonstrating his ongoing generosity and care for his community. His proudest accomplishments included leading a fulfilling family life, raising his three sons, and pursuing his passions, including bowling, where he received numerous awards for his skills.
Bob is survived by Cyndi Unger, the love of his life for the last 41 years; his sons Rob Bohan, Bryan Bohan, and Brad (Patty) Bohan; stepchildren Kelly (Karyn) Johnson, Kerri (Kipp) Gibson, and Nicolle Mace; siblings Bill Bohan, Mary Jean (Ron) Mycka, and Betty (Darrell) Seaton; and his grandchildren Murphy, Madison and John Bohan, Emerson and Carsen Bohan, Casey Johnson, Keagan Johnson, Claire Urias, Hayley Gibson, Jacob Mace, and Arielle Borchers, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Bohan, aunts and uncles, and his special nephew Bobbie Myka.
Visitation will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on, Friday, February 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
