Robert "Bob" J. Albertsen

Feb 9, 1955 — Nov 1, 2026

Jefferson, SD

Robert “Bob” J. Albertsen, 71, of Jefferson, South Dakota, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation will take place, and no services are planned at this time. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Bob was born on February 9, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Hans M. and Verna (Olsen) Albertsen. He grew up in Salix, Iowa, and graduated from Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa. On December 16, 1974, Bob was united in marriage to Julie R. Uhl in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Together, they built a life and raised three children, making their home throughout the Siouxland area, with most of their years spent in Jefferson, South Dakota.

Bob was a naturally gifted mechanic who seemed to have a knack for fixing just about anything. His mechanical abilities led him to a career centered around machine shop work and mechanical repair. Throughout his working years, he was employed with Thorpe Electric, Malloy Electric, and ultimately Novelty Machine, where he finished his career.

Outside of work, Bob's greatest hobby was working on cars. He enjoyed the challenge of figuring things out, getting his hands dirty, and bringing things back to life. Those who knew Bob would likely describe him as a little ornery, but beneath that personality was a sharp, intuitive mind and a man who had a way of understanding things that others might overlook.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Julie; three children, Amy (Mark) Kelly, Jody Albertsen, and Robert Jr. (Emily) Albertsen; six grandchildren, Shawn, Alexis, Alexandria, Gunnar, Caiden, and Jersey; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings, Bruce, Linda, and Pam; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Verna, and his brother, John.
