Robert J. “Bing” Bingen, 90, of Sioux City said fiddle faddle to this world on Friday, August 7, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 10, 2020 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Shane Deman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Bing was born on April 27, 1930 in Andover, SD, the son of John and Lillian (Blake) Bingen. He graduated as valedictorian from Andover High School. Bing was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator. After being honorably discharged in June of 1953, he moved to St. Paul, MN and began his career with UNIVAC, working with the team that helped put the 1st man on the moon.
Bing married Justine Yates on September 3, 1960 in Ottumwa, IA. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2004 in Sioux City. After the couple was married, they later moved to Sioux City. Bing enjoyed Polka Music and dancing, classic cars, crossword puzzles, and his garden. He was a devout Traditional Catholic and very supportive in the Pro-Life Campaign.
Survivors include his children: Katherine (DeWayne) Rowley of Sioux City, Tom Bingen of Sioux City, and Dorothy (Greg) Hickman of Lyons, SD; grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Brown, Eric (Kacie) Brown, Jillian (Manny) Ramos, Dakota Bingen, Michael (Jessica) Hickman, Andrew (Mollie) Hickman, Alex (Shelby) Hickman, and Connor Hickman; and his beloved cat Frannie.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings.
