Robert B. “Bob” Sabel, 92, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his residence.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Friends and family are encouraged to meet at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Congregation Beth Shalom (815 38th St.) to join the funeral procession to Graceland Park. Following services at the cemetery there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship at Congregation Beth Shalom. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

Robert B. “Bob”, the son of Bess (Turchen) Sabel and Mark Sabel, was born September 25, 1931, in Sioux City. Bob grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1949. He briefly attended the University of Iowa but was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he served 11 months with the 11th Infantry. In 1954, he returned to Sioux City where he assisted his mother with Jean’s Women’s Apparel which started in 1942. During that time, he enrolled in Morningside College where he graduated in 1957. After graduation, he worked full time with his mother and assumed management when she retired in 1970.

In 1972, Bob married Sandy Haugen also of Sioux City and they remained happily married until his death.

Bob owned and operated Jean’s until its closure in 2003. In 1989 Jeans relocated to its final location in downtown Sioux City on 4th and Pierce Street.  In 1990, Jean’s was nationally recognized and won 1st place as “New Store of the Year” for small Softline stores.

Throughout the years, Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, billiards, and card games.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Sabel and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bess Sabel; his father, Mark Sabel; and his sister, Jean and her husband, Merton "Cookie" Weiner.
