Rita (Barnes) Sullivan

Rita (Barnes) Sullivan, 78, of Jackson, NE passed away October 14, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 17, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Jackson, NE with Father Andrew Sohm officiating.  Visitation with the family will be at 9:30 A.M. until Mass time at the church.  Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Rita was born on April 24, 1944 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City, the daughter of Fred and Sophie (Gribas) Barnes.  Rita grew up in Dakota City and was in the last graduating class of Dakota City High School.  She married William (Bill) Sullivan of Jackson, NE on July 9th, 1966 in Elk Point, SD.  The family then moved to Jackson, NE to raise their family.  Rita was a stay-at-home mom to her girls until they were all school age.  She then went to work at Great West Casualty for the next 24 years until she retired.  Rita was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, NE.  She enjoyed researching her family genealogy, scrap booking and staying up late watching movies, after which she would send out her “Rita’s Review” email to her family and friends.  After retirement, Rita and Bill enjoyed traveling the United States.  More than anything, Rita just loved being with her family.  She was the best Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma ever.

Survivors include her husband Bill of Jackson; her girls: Laura (Larry) Ney of Jackson; Paula (Tom) Guntren of Sioux City; Lynn Sullivan and special friend Dan Tramp of South Sioux City; and Jeanne (Larry) Gill of Jackson.  Grandchildren: Clancey and Daniel Gill, Grace and Andrew Guntren, Mike and Tim Ney; Great Grandson: Bentley.  Her Brother, David (Mary)Barnes, Omaha; her sister, Diane Sullivan, Jackson; and a very large and loving extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Jerry Sullivan.

Pallbearers will be her Grandchildren.
