Rima M. Hartman, 84 of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024. A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 16, 2024 at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Rima Marie Rehder was born to Albert and Frieda Lange Rehder in rural Garfield Township, near Hawarden, lowa. She attended Garfield #8 country school through seventh grade and graduated from Hawarden High School, class of 1957. She received her Bachelors degree from Westmar College, Le Mars, lowa, and Masters degree from University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota.

On August 16, 1959 Rima married Ronald Hartman at Peace Lutheran Church in rural Sioux Center, lowa. Her 46-year career began the next week with Sioux City Community Schools teaching kindergarten, first grade, and reading recovery. She touched the lives of many students who learned to read because of her encouragement. Watching children grow and learn was rewarding to her. Rima was active in education organizations until the birth of their son Shawn in 1982. She remained active in St. John Lutheran Church and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international women's organization, until her health prevented her participation.

Survivors are husband Ronald Hartman, Sioux City; son Shawn Hartman, Le Mars; brother Orville Rehder, Sioux Center; sisters in law Shirley Rehder, Sioux Center, and Phyllis Rehder, Hawarden; Robert and Karen Hartman, Springfield, Missouri; Sandy and Bud Smith, Boone, lowa; sister-in-law Mary Hartman, Le Mars; many nieces and nephews; and honorary granddaughter Samantha Tibbetts.

Preceded in death by parents, Albert and Frieda Rehder; brothers Merlyn Rehder and George Rehder; sister Diana Oldenkamp and brother-in-law Bob Oldenkamp, all of Hawarden and brother-in-law Gerald Hartman, Le Mars.
