Richard was born on October 30, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa to Henry A. and Mildred (Dickes) Scott. He received his education and graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School.
Richard worked at Aalf’s Manufacturing after high school, when he met his bride-to-be, Juliann M. Beargeon. They married on July 3, 1965, at St. Francis of Assisi’s Catholic Church in Sioux City. To this union, two sons were born. Richard worked as a machinist at Sioux Tools for many years, retiring after the business closed their Sioux City location. While maintaining his career at Sioux Tools, he worked weekend and holidays, delivering flowers for Flowerland throughout Siouxland. If that wasn’t enough, he also moonlighted as a housepainter, concrete worker, roofer, tree-trimmer, and could be caught putting up chain-link fencing while building additions onto homes, along with helping maintain yards by power raking and shoveling snow in the winter months.
Richard did enjoy a few hobbies in his limited spare time, including riding his motorcycle, driving his classic cars like his 1974 Chevy Impala station wagon, taking in some car shows in the summer months, and riding snowmobiles in the winter months in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He and his wife Juliann enjoyed numerous cruises and several family trips to Colorado.
Richard is survived by his sons Kirk Scott of Hiawatha, Iowa and Kevin Scott of Papillion, Nebraska; sisters Dorothy (John) Dahlin of Oklahoma and Marlene Yablonovsky of Ohio; and numerous friends, schoolmates, and coworkers he has maintained friendship with throughout his life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Juliann in 2021, and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Scott in 2017.
Casket Bearers for the service will be Kirk and Kevin Scott, Ricky and Randy Uhl, Matthew Max, and Seth Whitty.
