Richard was born on September 27, 1952 in St. Paul, Nebraska, the son of Bernard and Anna Marie Lantz. He graduated from South Sioux City High School with the Class of 1970.
Richard married the love of his life, Patricia Rahn, on July 2, 1981. He was employed for the past 10 years at Mark Albenesius, Inc. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of South Sioux for several years and was a Husker fan for life and also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs.
Richard loved to fish and famously caught “Walter,” the biggest catfish of his life only to lose him off the string while boasting to friends about his “big catch”. Other past times he loved was golf and his Thursday night league at South Ridge and the playoff holes that followed.
Most importantly Richard loved his grandkids. He was a staple on the sideline cheering them on. He loved playing cards with them and having them around.
Richard was proceeded in death by both parents, Bernard and Anna Marie Lantz, father-in-law Robert Rahn, brother-in-law Robert Rahn Jr. and sister-in-law Kathy Lantz.
Survivors include: Wife Patricia Lantz; daughter Ashley Orzechowski (Tony) and their sons Luke and Blake (Lawton, IA); son Chad Merchant (Sara) and their children Tanner, Turner and Tayler (Bronson, IA); son Rod Lantz (Regina) and their children, Michael and Brookelyn (Sioux City, IA); sister Coleen Prenger (Jackson, NE); Brothers Larry Lantz, Jeff (Carrie) Lantz (South Sioux City, NE), and brother and sister-in-law Steve and April Rahn (Jackson, NE); mother-in-law Margaret Rahn (Jackson, NE); and many nieces and nephews….and “Walter.”
