Richard “Dick” Gene Copple, 77 of rural Dakota City, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at a local hospital. A Celebration of Life Service, with refreshments, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Burial will be at a later date at the Walthill Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Dick was born on August 27, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to Eddie and Alice (Pearson) Copple. He received his education at South Sioux City High School, graduating with the Class of 1964 went on to attend classes at Wayne State College and Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. Richard married Carol Ann Brown on December 27, 1967 in Sioux City, Iowa at the Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a life-long resident of Dakota County, Nebraska.
Richard worked at Eldon Schroeder Engineering in Sioux City, Iowa before enjoying his career at a mail carrier with the United States Post Office in South Sioux City, Nebraska, from which he retired. He was an extraordinary individual with diverse talents and interests. Richard was an avid outdoor enthusiast who loved camping, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. His career background was well versed in construction and remodeling projects and Richard always enjoyed the vision and conclusion of each project. In his retirement years, his love of animals led him to assist a local veterinarian and friend over the last several years and he also raised various livestock of his own. Dick was the 87th kidney transplant patient at Mayo Clinic in 1971 in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a devoted husband and father and had a privilege of calling many people his friend.
Richard is survived by his wife Carol; son Jason (Teresa) and their daughters Taylor and Bailey, son Nick (Sheila); brothers Bob (Kathy) Copple and Jerry (Cheryl) Copple; brother-in-law Don (Rosemary) Brown; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his two infant children Mark and Jill, his parents, and in-laws Don and Lola Brown.
