Richard A. Brandes, 90, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, NE.Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.Richard was born in Sioux City, IA on August 2, 1925, the son of John and Rose (Nelson) Brandes. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. He attended college at Iowa State in Ames, IA. Richard worked as a cattle buyer for Swift Packing Plant, where he met his wife to be, Mariana Porter, who was working in the office. Richard and Mariana were married in Sioux City, IA. He also worked as a cattle buyer for Raskin/Midstates Packing Plant and as an order buyer with Heinie Jones.He was a member of the Abu'Bekr Shriners and the White Horse Patrol. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid duck hunter, and he also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and golfing.Survivors include his son, Richard (Pat) Brandes of South Sioux City, NE; 2 granddaughters, Brianna (Jeremy) Reed of Leavenworth, KS and Blair Brandes (Perry Bergh) of South Sioux City, NE; grandchildren, Caleb, Casen and Gavin Reed, Brayson and Brenlyn Bergh; and two nephews, Chris and John Brandes and their families.Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Brandes; his wife, Mariana Porter; and a brother, Neal Brandes.
