Rev. Dick R. Morgan

December 6, 1933 — December 12, 2025

Sioux City, Iowa

Rev. Dick Rea Morgan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated servant of God, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Sioux City, IA at the age of 92. He was born on December 6, 1933, in Sac City, IA, the son of Rea Charles and Edith Anna Margaret (Sanow) Morgan. Dick spent his formative years in various Iowa communities, including Sac City, Hartley, and Sheldon, eventually settling in Sioux City where he graduated from Central High School in 1952.

Following high school, Dick proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. His service extended from July 1952 until September 1954, after which he continued to serve in the Reserves for a total of eight years. On January 24, 1953, he married Marilyn (Markl) Morgan in Sioux City, a union that brought forth four daughters.

A significant chapter of Dick's life began in 1976 when he owned and operated General Service Center, a business known for its appliance repair services. He dedicated himself to this venture until the passing of his wife, Marilyn, in 1997. In search of new purpose, Dick found love again and married Katherine (Held) Trautman Morgan on November 3, 2000. During this period, he felt a call to ministry and returned to school at Siouxland Christian College and Theological Seminary, where he earned an Associate of Theology degree, graduating on April 30, 2004.

Dick's ministry was distinguished by his ordination in July 1999 by St. John's Evangelical Church in Hornick, IA. He served as pastor at both St. John's and Climbing Hill First Baptist Church. His leadership and vision were vital during his tenure as Director of Development for the Gospel Mission, where he was instrumental in opening a thrift store, establishing the Women's and Children's Shelter, and relocating the mission to 500 Bluff St. Later, he transitioned to the role of chaplain at the Gospel Mission, a position he described as the fulfillment of his formal ministry, serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with unwavering devotion until his retirement in August 2011.

He was a member of the Gideon's International before becoming a pastor and spoke in possibly hundreds of churches raising funds for the Gideon ministry during his 37 years of membership.

Throughout his life, Dick was renowned for being a hard worker, deeply patriotic, and thoroughly spiritual. He had a passion for connecting with people and was fiercely dedicated to his family and friends. Outside of his professional commitments, he cherished his hobbies, particularly fishing and taking camping trips to Minnesota, as well as his love for photography, capturing the beauty of old barns through his lens.

Dick's legacy continues to live on through his four daughters, Vicki Adkins (Jeff) of Sioux City, Terri Post (Dennis) of Sioux City, Kathi Ackerman (Les Lofgren) of St. Bonifacius, MN, and Nanci Morgan-McKenzie of Sanford, FL. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Joshua Gravedoni, Christopher Ackerman-Yang (Chou Yang-Ackerman), Brian Ackerman (Vitoria), Aaron Ackerman (Caitlin), Mathew Slattery (Kari), Danielle Slattery (Jordan Badura), Adam McKenzie, and Christian McKenzie; and four great-grandchildren: Sophia Gravedoni, Fiona Gravedoni, Brooks Badura, and Elio Ackerman. In addition to his immediate family, Dick is survived by several other relatives and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his two spouses, Marilyn and Katherine; and his half-brother, Jack Morgan (Leona), and half-sister, Violet Rahn (Kenny).

His visitation and funeral service will be held at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, IA.
