Raymond "Ray" Charles Reed, 103, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026 at a local nursing home.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Pastor D. Schoop presiding. Visitation will begin at 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park with a private family service.
Ray was born February 2, 1923 in Bartlett, Iowa the son of Charles and Iva (Brittain) Reed. He grew up on the family farm near Tabor, Iowa. Ray was a turret gunner on B-17 during World War II being stationed in England and flying missions over Germany. He married Deloris Hardersen on July 18, 1945 in Sioux City. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Climbing Hill, Iowa. He and Dee farmed and ranched in the Sioux City and Le Mars, Iowa and western Nebraska areas. Ray was a past member of the lowa Paint Horse Association, and the TriState Roping Club. He was a life time member of the VFW. He retired from the Peterson Farm and Feedlot of Bronson, lowa at the age of 92. He enjoyed reading, traveling and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his five children, Sharilyn Steck of Sioux City, Monty (Luanne) Reed of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Marlon Reed (Dawn) of Ainsworth, Bryan Reed of Ainsworth, Ranae Reed of Sioux City, 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren: 3 great-great grandchildren; sister Leta Mae Marlowe and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son Randall (wife Sherry) from Pocatello, Idaho, brothers, Kenneth Reed, Gilbert Reed, sisters Bertha in infancy, Ruby Maxwell; brothers-in-law, Farrell Maxwell, Virgil Malowe, Orville Hardersen, Adrian Hardersen; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Hardersen, Marie Reed, Margaret Reed, Betty Reed, Jeanette Hardersen; son-in-law, Mark Steck and daughter-in-law, Ruth Reed.
