Obituary

Randy Joe Barnes

Friday, June 9, 1961 – Thursday, June 4, 2026

Randy Joe Barnes, 64 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at a local hospital. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Raridan officiating. Visitation, with family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Randy Barnes was born to Elvis "Neill" and Joyce "Jean" Barnes and was the youngest of three children. He grew up in South Sioux City alongside his brother, Tony, and sister, Vicky.

A lifelong resident of South Sioux City, Randy graduated from South Sioux City High School and later attended WIT, where he studied Auto Body. He worked at Derby Gas Station and spent much of his life doing what he loved most—fixing things. Whether it was a car, a truck, or something around the house, Randy wasn't satisfied until it worked the way it was supposed to.

Randy especially enjoyed restoring cars and trucks with his nephews, Corby (Jasmine) and Skylar. He was a talented mechanic with a knack for figuring things out and a willingness to help anyone who needed a hand.

He loved playing cards and learned to count by playing cribbage with his Grandpa Elvis before he was six years old. Over the years he enjoyed many card games, including 31, 500, pitch, and poker. He also enjoyed boating on the Missouri River, swimming, and playing 8-ball pool.

Music was another one of Randy's gifts. He could listen to a song on the guitar and play it back as though he had written it himself. He was also a talented woodworker who created rocking horses, a Santa sleigh, a crib that converted into a twin bed, and many Christmas displays that brought joy and warmth to family, friends, and neighbors throughout the years.

Randy was a great uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. He loved spending time with his great-nieces, Ainsley and Addelyn, and treasured every moment he spent with family. He was known as a good listener, a good cook, and someone who could always be counted on when help was needed.

Randy was deeply loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the many things he built, repaired, taught, and shared with those around him.

Rock on, Randy!
