Randolph “Randy” Leroy Laird, 69, of Sioux City, died on August 10, 2024, after a lengthy battle with COPD.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the funeral home.
Randy was born November 3, 1954, in Sioux City, the son of Walter and Bernadine Laird. He was raised on a farm in Dakota City, NE and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1973.
Randy held several jobs throughout his lifetime, he worked at IPB, in construction, and various positions with the City of Sioux City, where he eventually retired in 2007.
Randy had three children from his first marriage, Julie, Lyndsay, and Joe. At the time of his passing, he was married to the love of his life, Marceile “Marcy”. They enjoyed 34 years together, and to that union was born his youngest daughter, Alayna.
Randy enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. He could be found cheering on his cherished Huskers, sitting on his tailgate with a cold Budweiser waving at passersby, shooting the breeze with a friend, and feeding the birds, deer, and turkeys. He really enjoyed attending many activities his grandchildren were involved in and just being around them in general.
He was the King of Dad jokes and one-liners (Randy-isms), loved to occasionally visit a casino and looked forward to his annual guys poker game. He also loved to travel when he was healthy enough to do so. He never failed to tell his kids and grandkids how proud he was of them and his unconditional love will be truly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marcy, daughter Julie (Richard) and grandkids: Lee, Clarity, Carlee, and Laney; daughter Lyndsay (Vance) and grandkids: Taylor, Grant, Dylan, Logan, Nate, Chris, Allie, and Charon; his son Joseph (Thatvaly) and grandkids: Briana, Natasha, Leah, Annabelle, and Amelia; his daughter Alayna (Hannah) and Charlie – his favorite grandpup. Randy was also a foreign exchange dad to Anna (Berci) Hollinetz. Also mourning his death are his siblings: Tony (Sandra) and Rocky (Judy); twelve great grandchildren; and he was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Bernadine Laird, mother-in-law Ruth Greer, his sister Virginia Nathlich, and a nephew-in-law, Kenny Barker.
A special thank you to the numerous physicians and nurses at Mercy One Hospital, who offered him wonderful care and will be remembered as family.
