Ralph G. Stephan, 90, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, after a life marked by hard work, generosity, and service to others. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2026 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Pastor Julie Raridan officiating. Burial, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors, will follow a luncheon. Visitation, with family present will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning at the funeral home prior to services. He was born on June 12, 1936, in Hubbard, Nebraska, to Samuel S. Stephan and Faye V. (Newman) Stephan.
A skilled welder and businessman, Ralph built a respected career in the steel and welding industry. He was the first foreman to work under Sam Berenstein at State Steel, a testament to his dedication, leadership, and craftsmanship. He later owned and operated Stephan Welding Shop, where he earned a reputation for quality workmanship and a willingness to help anyone in need. Whether repairing equipment, lending his expertise, or simply offering a helping hand, Ralph was happiest when serving others.
He proudly served in the Army Reserves, 133rd Cavalry Combat Engineers, where he earned recognition as an Excellent Marksman.
Ralph was a faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City. He was also active in the American Legion, the Blacksmith Association, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2492, served as a volunteer firefighter, and enjoyed working on the pit crew for Stock Car Racing No. 25.
On October 6, 1989, Ralph married the love of his life, Cleo J. South, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Together they shared many happy years filled with family, faith, and friendship.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Cleo; son, Ralph S. Stephan; daughter, Cynthia (Matt) Stephan-Rowe; stepchildren, Judy (Chris) Church, Jean (Steve Luft) Evans, Jim (Cathy) Evans, and Janet (Steve) Pettersson; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Katy Stephan and Barb Stephan; and his special aunt, Shirley Knight.
Ralph will be remembered as a man who was always willing to help others. His kindness, generosity, and compassionate spirit touched countless lives. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or support those around him. His legacy is one of service, humility, and love, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Honorary pallbearers are Josh Blom, Seth Blom, Ricky Stephan, Warren Navrude, Shane Krueger, and Todd Stephan.
Ralph's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of St. Croix Hospice for the compassion and excellent care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the South Sioux City Senior Center, honoring Ralph's generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
