Phyllis was born in Le Mars, Iowa, to Roger and Mildred (Miller) Van Dyke. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith, which remained an important foundation throughout her life. A proud graduate of Leeds High School’s class of 1967, she went to study business in college beginning a long and dedicated career. Phyllis worked at the foundry for 40 years, and then later continued her hard work and service at Walmart.
In 1969, she married Joseph Allison and though their marriage ended, it was an important chapter in her life. In 1973 she married Melvin Olson, with whom she shared many years of her life with. Phyllis’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to her four beloved children, Sharmon, John, Michael, and Heather, and a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren.
Phyllis had a generous heart and a love for the simple things in life. She was an avid viewer of NCIS, cheered for the Minnesota Vikings, and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her siblings Karen (Charles) James, Cynthia Weaver, her children, Sharmon Van Dyke, John (Deborah) Allison and Heather Morgan, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Ruehmann, brother Duane Van Dyke, Husband Melvin Olson, and son Michael Allison.
