Peggy Ann Layhee, 77 of Dakota Dunes passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023. A Memorial visitation will be Monday, March 20, 2023 from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery.
Peggy was born the daughter of Peter and Gloria (Baird) Martin on February 16, 1946, in Watsonville, California. She grew up in Santa Cruz, California, graduating from Holy Cross High School. Peggy married David Layhee in 1967 and together they had three children, Jeffery, Tana, and Brenna. In 1977, they moved to Sioux City, where they raised their family, quickly made life-long friendships, and settled into this community that they still call “home”.
Peggy was a devoted mother. She stayed home, raising her girls until they attended college. She then joined the banking community at U.S. Bank, as a Personal Banker. Peggy was very involved in her community, she sat on several boards throughout her lifetime, welcomed new community members openly, loved attending local events, and very much enjoyed meeting others and forming personal, lasting friendships.
Peggy enjoyed traveling the world. She and her besties, the “Go-Ahead-Girls”, ventured to Greece, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Cuba, Germany, Morocco. . . to name a few, and traveled all over the United States as well. Peggy was the “secretary” of her GNO (Girl’s Night Out) group. The ladies could count on her to get the group together every week, where they enjoyed laughing, sharing stories, supporting each other, and making plans for their next adventure. She was a talented quilter, loved to dance, was a master of photographing her memories and created beautiful scrapbooks. She also enjoyed home decorating and crafts of all kinds.
We would have to say that Peggy’s biggest joy in life was being Grandma Peg. Peggy loved her girls and grandchildren with all her heart. She was a proud ‘Grandma Peg’. She wouldn’t miss a grandchild’s game, concert, play, or recital for anything else. She was their loudest, most invested cheerleader in the stands. And a self-proclaimed ref, ump, teacher and coach of all things!
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Tana (David) Archer and Brenna Rosenquist (Travis Heaton), all of Dakota Dunes, SD; brother, John (Barbara) Martin of San Luis Obispo, CA; grandchildren, Rhyen (Chloe), Robert, Smith, Rachel, Samantha, Rylee, Randy, and Sera; and great-grandson, Roman. She will be forever missed by the many family and friends who loved her dearly.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Gloria Martin; brother, Robert Martin; sister, Mary Martin; and son, Jeffrey Layhee in infancy.
