Pedro Ortega Rodriguez

Pedro Ortega Rodriguez, 86 years old of Sioux City, passed away on May 10, 2025 at a local hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church located at 1315 First Ave, South Sioux City, NE with Fr. Matthew Niggemeyer as the celebrant. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening, May 20, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a rosary at 6:45 P.M. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Arturo Hernandez. Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pedro Ortega was born in Havana, Cuba on October 23, 1938. He met Julia Castillo Perez when he was 12 years old. They joined in Holy Matrimony and celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing in February 11, 2016.

To this union, four children were born: Alma Ortega Flores, Gabriel (Jackie Rojas) Ortega, Hassan (Margaret) Ortega, Angel Ortega. They have been blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In his younger years, he was a naval man, ship caretaker and operator, enjoyed mechanics and excelled at construction. He had an overall fascination for learning. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Pedro is survived by his survived by Alma, Gabriel, Hassan and Angel and their families.

Pedro was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Crystal Marie Flores and grandson Gabriel Ortega Jr.
