McCardle
Mar 23, 1939 — Aug 27, 2026
Sioux City, Iowa
Paul Leo McCardle, 87, formerly of Ponca and South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on August 27th, 2026, at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation and service will be held September 9th, 2026, at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska at 1:30 with family present and a prayer service will be held at 3:30. Private burial will be at a later date at South Creek Cemetery.
Paul was born March 23rd, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised in Martinsburg, Nebraska by Winnifred and Michael McArdle. He attended grade school in Martinsburg and went on to graduate from Ponca High School in 1957 where his friends called him Mac, which continued for the rest of his life. Paul served in the US Army from May 1958 to May 1960 as a member of the Color Guard in Arlington, Virginia. After his discharge Paul worked for Prince Manufacturing from 1960 until his retirement in 1999, starting as a machinist and ending his career as a general manager. Paul loved working on engines and rebuilding old vehicles. Growing up, his brothers called him "Tinker" because he loved taking things apart and putting them back together.
After he retired from Prince he purchased his original family farm in Martinsburg, and he loved spending time there and "moving dirt around" as his kids would say.
Paul is survived by his children Teresa Nelson of Sioux City, Lisa Kunzie (Don) of Sioux City, Marjorie (Craig) Manker of Dakota Dunes SD, and Paul (Jena) McCardle of Bloomfield NE. Also survived by his six grandchildren: Jason (Traci) Nelson, Chandra (Jenni) Chase-Deboer, Rachel (Cody) Senger, Shelby (Jordan) Larsen, Larissa McCardle and David McCardle, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers (Bernard, Herbert, John, Robert, Joseph, and William) and four sisters (Kathryn, Margarite, Delores and Anne).
A special thanks goes out to the staff at Westwood Specialty Care for the kindness and compassion shown to “Papa” as they called him.
