Paul A. Glasson

Paul A. Glasson, 65, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2024, at his home after a battle with colon cancer.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Meyer Brothers Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Paul, the son of John and Wanda (Weesner) Glasson, was born on October 7, 1958, in Cherokee, Iowa. Paul grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools, graduating from West High in 1976. After high school, Paul attended Forestry School in North Dakota and moved to Arizona for a short period of time. He also lived in Vail, Colorado from 1979 to 1981 before returning to Sioux City. Paul had a 25-year career with the City of Sioux City from 1985 to 2010 working in the Public Works Department. He also helped Hostad Monument Service setting headstones during his days off and after a long day at the City. He finished his working days as the District Manager of the Sioux City Journal and retired in 2016.

Paul married Shelly Fouts on June 1, 1985, and had one son, Jacob Taylor Glasson, who still lives and works in Sioux City. Paul and Shelly divorced in 2005, but Jacob blessed Paul with a grandson, Keegan, who brought him much joy.

In his younger years, Paul spent many days boating on the Missouri River water skiing and fishing. Miner’s Bend was the place of choice at the family cabin. Spending time at Miner’s Bend led to his passion of hunting -- whether it was deer, pheasant, duck or geese. He also attended a deer camp in the Loess Hills for many years. Duck hunting was his favorite. Many delicious meals were provided with his game. He also had a passion for processing and cooking his own game. He was a real master at many dishes.

Paul was always helping other people and has given to many people in Siouxland with his blood donations of over 20 gallons.

Paul is survived by one son, Jake Glasson of Sioux City, Iowa; one grandson, Keegan Glasson of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Lynn Johnson of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Carol Glasson of Edwards, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dan W. Glasson, Sr.
