Patricia "Patty" Ann Redmond

Patricia “Patty” Ann Redmond, 72 of Sioux City passed away April 9, 2025. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Country Celebrations with Rosary at 5:00 pm and visitation at 5:30 pm, followed by many celebrations, stories and Patty hugs with dinner afterwards. Burial will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. 

Patty was born on June 7, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa, to James and Rachel (Lamoureux) Redmond. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1970 and then attended WITCC. Patty married Robert Nelson in 1971 and although brief their union brought upon it eternal love through their three children, Jason “Lumpy”, Zach and Meghan.

Patty was a waitress at Sneaky’s Chicken for several years. She later became a specialist with Juvenile Court Services until her retirement. Patty volunteered at Clare House regularly and also opened her home as a foster mom to troubled teens in need. If anyone ever needed anything, Patty was always the first person to step up and provide care. She loved people for who they were and accepted everyone with the kindest hospitality.

She enjoyed thrifting and repurposing, mending clothing, and her flower garden. She was a great homemaker and a talented baker, famous for her lasagna, scotcheroos, banana bread, chocolate rum cake, and cookies. This love of baking has been passed onto her grandkids, who learned to love to bake with their Grandma Patty. Above all else, this was probably her favorite title: Grandma. Patty was born to be a grandmother. Each of them carries her love of family (and food) forward for generations to come.

She will be remembered by all and is survived by her children, Jason “Lumpy” Nelson (Amy Westhoff), Zachary Nelson (Lisa), and Meghan Nelson (Ryan Allen); grandchildren, Emily, Alicia, Brendan, Avery (Levi), Grace, Natalie, Liam, Nolan, and Sawyer; siblings, Kathleen Riley, Tom Redmond (Jan Zelfer-Redmond), Jim Redmond (Daphne), and Susan Craig (Bill); sisters-in-law, Fran Redmond and Leila Redmond; and nieces and nephews far and wide.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mike Redmond (Helen), Mary Ann Audino (Frank), Maurice Redmond, and Rick Redmond.
