Patricia “Pat” Calhoun, 83 of Sioux City passed away peacefully at Holy Spirit Retirement Home on January 13, 2024.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 am Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Holy Cross Parish, St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father David Hemann as Celebrant.  Burial at Calvary Cemetery will follow.  Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday morning.

Pat was born on January 11, 1941 in Webster City, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Palmerton) Donahue.  Pat graduated from Central Catholic High School, Marshall Minnesota in 1959.  Following graduation, she moved to Sioux City to attend Briar Cliff College. While in Sioux City, Pat met her husband Ray Calhoun.  They married in April of 1963 and went on to have three children.

After her children were in school, Pat worked at St. Michael’s school and the Diocese of Sioux City.  In 1985, Pat began her career as a paralegal with the Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office and remained until her retirement.  Pat had returned to Briar Cliff University as an “adult learner” where she graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1989.

Pat's greatest joys were found in spending time with her family and friends.  Her favorite pastimes included sewing, gardening, quilting, and genealogy.  Pat thoroughly enjoyed the lifelong friendships that were made through the love of quilting.  Donating quilts to agencies in need brought her such satisfaction. Pat’s Catholic faith was an important part of her life as she was a longtime member of Holy Cross-St. Michael’s Church, past Altar Society President, member of prayer circle, Carmel Guild Board member and a Eucharistic Minister.

In 2015, Pat moved from her home of 50 years in Leeds to the Village Coop Community where new relationships were established and past were reunited.  In 2022, Pat moved to the Holy Spirit Retirement Community.

Survivors include her children, Mary Pick from Sioux City, Kevin (Maria) Calhoun of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Michael (Cara) Calhoun of La Quinta, California; grandchildren, Alicia (Ryan) Held, Alex (Megan) Pick, Ethan and Connor Calhoun; great grandchildren, Blake and Charlotte Held; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Dave Willadsen of Waconia, Minnesota; sister-in-law Lois Cleary of Faribault, Minnesota; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Donahue; and son-in-law, Jeff Pick.

Pat’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Holy Spirit Retirement Community and St. Croix Hospice for their loving and  compassionate care these last couple of months.

Memorial donations may be directed to Holy Spirit Retirement Home or St. Michael's Catholic Church.
