Pat was born on October 4, 1934, in Sioux City, to John and Ethel (Bursell) Matthews. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, where she attended Cooper Elementary School, East Junior High School, and Heelan Catholic High School. She was united in marriage to Trinidad Calvillo, Jr., in 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church. Their marriage was blessed with five children.

Most of her work life was at Sears, where she supported the credit and customer service operations of the Sioux City store. After retirement, she worked at the Morningside College bookstore, and attended classes in the English Department. She later volunteered at the Sioux City Bargain Center, and at Joy Elementary School where she helped the staff cover the noon lunch and recess hours.

Reading, walking, travel, Bridge, and coffee with close friends were Pat’s primary interests. She had a passion for education and supported her kids & grandkids throughout their primary, secondary & college years. She made a warm and welcoming home for family and friends in the Craftsman Style house on South Newton Street that she so dearly cherished. She hosted Birthday and Holiday events that connected her family in celebration and tradition.  Christmas & Easter held special prominence, where her Waterford stemware and Franciscan Ivy place settings were stunning vessels to her highly anticipated holiday fare.

She was very proud of her Irish heritage, could whip all challengers in a round of leg wrestling, and probably would have liked, in her remembrance, the classic Irish proverb: “May your glass be ever full. May the roof over your head be always strong. And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.”

Those left to hold close her memory include her daughters: Mary Kimberly Calvillo, Patty (Jim) Nutzman, Amy (John) Moeller; and son, Michael (Becky) Calvillo; son-in-law, Howard Staber Jr.; grandchildren, Meggan (Ryan) Fox, Katie (Matt) Nice, John (Angie) Staber, Michelle (Shay) Hacker, Andrew (Emilie) Moeller, Falon Andersen, Chris (Brittany) Calvillo, and Joanne Calvillo; sister, Donna (Myron) Watkins; nieces, Jill (Jack) Conard, Brenda (Mike) Parazo, Mary Beth (Dave) Thompson; nephews, Patrick (Pam) Watkins, Matthew (Jen) Watkins; and 18 great grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Michelle Staber; family friend Gustav Gunther; ex-husband, Trinidad Calvillo, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Myron Watkins.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Charter Senior Living of Northpark Place and St. Croix Hospice. A grateful thank you to Brandi, Gabby, Danica, and Sophie. Your collective care for our Mother eased not only her Earthly journey, but ours in saying goodbye.

Memorials can be made in her honor to the Warming Shelter Inc. or the Food Bank of Siouxland Inc. and mailed to: The family of Patricia Calvillo, c/o Patricia Nutzman, 1800 Rebecca Street, Sioux City, Iowa, 51103.
