Oliver "Ollie" J.
Nygard
Nov 22, 1934 — Sep 18, 2026
Sioux City, Iowa
Oliver J. “Ollie” Nygard, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, September 18, 2026, at a local care facility.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Augustana Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family will be Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ollie was born November 22, 1934, in Sioux City, the son of Jonas “Ole” and Agnes (Elvik) Nygard. He graduated from East High School in 1953 and continued his education at Wayne State College, graduating in August of 1957. Following college, Ollie enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1957 to 1959.
After returning home to Sioux City, Ollie met Linda Luksan, the woman who would become his beloved wife and lifelong companion. The couple married on June 3, 1960, and together they built a wonderful life and raised their two sons, Mark and David. Ollie was a devoted husband and father whose love for his family was evident in the way he cared for them and worked hard to provide for them throughout his life.
Ollie began his career working as a draftsman before eventually putting his skills, determination, and strong work ethic into owning and operating his own heating and air conditioning company. He was never afraid of hard work and took great pride in a job well done. Even away from work, Ollie liked to keep busy and could often be found tinkering with something, working in the garden, or finding a project that needed his attention.
While Ollie knew the value of hard work, he also knew how to enjoy life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and make those around him laugh as well. His humor, caring nature, and ability to bring a smile to others were qualities that made him so special to his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening, and simply spending time doing the things he loved.
Ollie was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 66 years, Linda Nygard of Sioux City; his sons, Mark Nygard of Sioux City and David Nygard of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Agnes Nygard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to a favorite charity or church in Ollie’s memory.
