Olatheaus Lewis “Mack” McDaniel, eighty-six of Sioux City, IA passed away Friday, November 3, 2023. Abiding his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Repast to follow at Abu Bekr Shriners, 820 Nebraska St.
Mack was born the son of Dennis and Channie (Harmon) McDaniel on February 20, 1937, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was raised on the family farm where he helped work in the fields. He graduated from Manual Training High School in 1955. Mack married Climmie Lee Smith on April 7, 1959. To this union five children were born. They later divorced. He then married Evereada Dupree on June 30, 1973. Evereada was a faithful and devoted member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Evereada passed away in 2018.
Mack lived with his sister in Kansas City for a few years before making Sioux City his home. He worked in the packing plants until he began his career in construction. He drove a dump truck for Brower Construction/Knife River Company for forty-three years until his retirement.
Mack was a man of few words, but his love and generosity was abundant. He was a huge sports guy. He liked watching all kinds of sports on ESPN and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He also liked watching dog racing in North Sioux and playing cards. At the center of his life was his large family. He enjoyed spending time with them while grilling out at his house.
Mack is survived by his children, Olatheaus Lewis (Sharla) McDaniel, Jr. of Muskogee, OK, Katrina McDaniel of Omaha, NE, Anthony McDaniel of Sioux City, IA, Joyce McDaniel of Sioux City, IA, and Michael (Candice) McDaniel of Sioux City, IA; sister, Lovetta Worrell of Kansas City, MO; step daughter-in-law, Sue Dupree; step son-in-law, Anthony Sobers; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evereada; nine brothers and sisters; grandson in infancy, Javante; and stepchildren, Dale, Rita, and Gail.
