Norman Dean Hilbers, Sr., 76 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with burial to follow at Dakota City Cemetery. Norman was born on September 14, 1948 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Edward and Elizabeth (Leu) Hilbers Sr. He received his education in the Stanton Public Schools, Stanton, Nebraska before serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return after his honorable discharge, Norman married Lois Raff on July 26, 1970 in Stanton, Nebraska. Following the marriage, the couple moved to Pierce, Nebraska before taking up residency in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Norman worked the majority of his career at IBP in Dakota City, Nebraska, but joined Western States shortly before retiring early due to health issues, and to care for his oldest daughter. He loved playing cards, socializing, and playing pool.  Earlier in life, he enjoyed fishing and driving around. Norman loved getting scratch-off tickets and meeting up with friends for coffee until his health became a factor. 

Norman is survived by his wife Lois of Sioux City; daughters Christy Hilbers of Sioux City, Laura (Brad) Marr of Whiting, Iowa, and Rebecca (Chad) Papenhausen of Sioux City; grandchildren Chase, Jonathan, and Joshua Carstens, Alahna Marr, Alissa, Isabella, Easton, and Grayson Papenhausen; great-grandchildren Mac, Aiden, and Nyclaus; sisters Margaret Arnold of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and Norma (Ron) Munson of Norfolk, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his son Norman Hilbers, Jr., his parents, brothers Larry Hilbers, George Hilbers, and Edward Hilbers, Jr., sisters Shirley Prusa and Ruth Coupland, two step-brothers, and two step-sisters.
