Obituary

Nolan Winston Georgesen passed away on June 24, 2026. Nolan was born on May 2, 1932 to Henry and Lola (Buckner) Georgesen. He attended country school District 25 and then graduated from Homer High School. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer, NE.

Nolan married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Harriet Andersen on March 23, 1951. In December, 1952 Nolan was drafted into the US Army and assigned to duty as a military policeman, Company B 728th in Korea until his discharge in November, 1954. He came home with many stories about his experiences in Korea.

After returning from military duty, he resumed farming. He and Margaret resided on the farm Nolan was born on and which he purchased from his parents. He lived on that farm until his death, always hoping to be able to die in the room he was born in.

Nolan and Margaret were the proud parents of their son, Eric who eventually joined Nolan in the farming operation as a full-time farmer. Additionally, Nolan and Margaret provided a loving home for Peggy and Karen Jensen who came to live with them as teenagers after the death of their mother. Margaret passed away in June of 2000.

On September 20, 2001, Nolan married Mona Hanson. Mona passed away in 2020.

While Nolan enjoyed and valued farming and the life of a farmer, he dearly loved to travel and vacationed in many different places with his family. He was an avid learner of history, often researching and studying the historical relevance of events that took place in sites he was visiting. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow to adulthood and was proud of their accomplishments. Beginning in childhood, he had a soft spot for pets, having had several dogs and beloved cats in his life.

Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Margaret and Mona, brother Vernon Georgesen, brothers-in-law, Ken Christopher and Ron Flaugh, nephews Roger Georgesen and Craig Flaugh.

He is survived by his son Eric (Sharlene), grandchildren Erin (Ben) Steffens, Matthew (Brooke Kingston, fiancee), sisters Betty Christopher and Char Flaugh, sister-in-law Ramona Georgesen and several nieces and nephews.

Nolan will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Green Valley Cemetery.  Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
