Mindy Sims, 46 of South Sioux City, NE went home to be with her Lord and Savior unexpectedly due to a car accident on June 29, 2026.
Mindy was born a twin daughter to Donna (Peters) Durant on March 1, 1980 in Sioux City, IA. Mindy was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. She grew up in South Sioux City. Mindy attended South Sioux City High School and was known as an all around athlete – Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Track, Soccer, and even a year of Cheer. While Mindy attended High School she was proud to say that they brought 4 straight years of State Championship Basketball Titles home. Mindy was also crowned Homecoming Queen; she wasn’t only athletic she genuinely loved people and spoke to everyone. Mindy’s kindness was given to everyone. She had the ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and valued. Mindy graduated High School in 1998. She then continued her education on a basketball scholarship at Morningside College. She continued her education again at the University of South Dakota in Dental Hygiene. Mindy has worked as a Dental Hygienist for 20 years at the Winnebago Dental Clinic. Mindy also worked as an assistant coach for the South Sioux City Cardinals Girls Basketball program, getting to be there while McKenna played on the team.
Mindy was a devoted mother to her four children; McKenna, Brodee, Jagger, and Cooper. They were her greatest love and she worked tirelessly to provide, protect, and encourage them. She always made sure they knew how deeply they were loved. She also loved her family and friends and she would reach out and make sure they all knew she cared and remembered them.
Mindy always thought of others even before herself at times. It was not unexpected that she kept food and blankets in her car for whoever was in need. Mindy was a strong Christian and loved sharing her faith and belief with everyone. Her strength she would tell you comes from GOD. Mindy had a love for all things; and never missed any event for her kids or family. Mindy enjoyed dancing and went as often as she could. Mindy loved family gatherings and would volunteer her home for them.
Mindy is survived by her children; McKenna Schnurr (TJ) of Bondurant, IA, Brodee Sims, Jagger Sims, and Cooper Sims of South Sioux City, NE and her Fur Kids Max and Kylo. Her mother Donna Durant of South Sioux City, NE. Her sister Tami Saul (David) of Gretna, NE. Her twin brother Mark Durant (Alejandra) of Elkhorn, NE.
