Celebrating the Life of Miles H. Patton Jr.

Miles H. Patton Jr., 92, beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2024, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City, Iowa. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Born on December 16, 1931, in Fredonia, KS, Miles was the only child of Irma (Farmer) and Miles H. Patton Sr. He lived a life characterized by deep faith and devotion to his family. On June 21, 1953, he married Gayle Harrison, and together they shared 49 years of cherished memories until her passing in 2003.

Miles graduated from Morningside College and served stateside in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He had a career with Cargill in the grain industry, a role that took him and his family away for a few years, but he always considered Sioux City home. His second career as the executive director for WACO (Work Activities Co.) brought him great joy, supporting individuals with disabilities and providing them with care, dignity, and opportunities for personal growth.

He served on numerous boards and community organizations. His most recent volunteer work was assisting with the annual NAIA women's basketball and volleyball tournaments, where he enjoyed supporting young athletes and their fans. Miles served as a Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church, sharing his faith with many congregations. He exemplified his commitment to Christ through his compassionate leadership.

Above all else, Miles cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren's activities, from school performances to sporting events. His presence brought joy and encouragement to them. His warm smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Miles is survived by his children, Patti Hesse (Ralph) and Miles H. Patton III (Roxane) of Sioux City, and Brad Patton of Spokane, WA; his grandchildren Ryan Hesse (Shelly), Zach Hesse (Emily), Jessie Williams (Forrest), Miles H. Patton (girlfriend Macy), and Bailey Hampton; and his great-grandchildren Christian, Sydney, Peregrine, and Finnegan, along with many other family members and friends who will continue to honor his memory.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at Sunrise Retirement Community for their compassionate care and support during Miles's 2 1/2 years with them. Their dedication and kindness provided comfort and peace during both good and difficult times.  Thanks also to St. Croix Hospice for their end-of-life care.
