Michael Eugene “Mike” Reed, 76, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at his home in Sioux City, surrounded by his loving family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with the family will begin at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Born on May 1, 1950, in Sioux City, the son of Larry and Patricia “Pat” Reed, Mike’s life was marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep commitment to those around him.
A lifelong learner and educator, Mike graduated from Central High School before attending Dakota State College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education. His passion for teaching blossomed early. After marrying Sandy Oas on June 8, 1974, in Madison, South Dakota, he began his teaching career in Chamberlain, SD. By 1976, he and Sandy had moved to Sioux City, where Mike dedicated many years to molding young minds as an elementary school teacher and coaching staff at North High School, leaving behind a legacy of education and mentorship before his retirement.
Mike’s devotion extended far beyond the classroom. He was an avid golfer whose enthusiasm for the sport mirrored his zest for life. His greatest joy came from his family—spending cherished time with his sons, Jason and Derek, and his treasured grandchildren, Noah, Jordan, and Rowyn. Whether attending sporting events or simply enjoying family gatherings, Mike’s focus was steadfastly on those he loved. He and Sandy also had a fondness for traveling.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Reed; his sons, Jason (Tiffany) Reed and Derek Reed, both of Sioux City; and three grandchildren, Noah, Jordan, and Rowyn. Mike is also survived by his siblings: Sheila (Don) Hubbart, Steve Reed, Sheryl (Steve) Thompson, Linda (Jim) Hofstatter, Tim Reed, Scott Reed, and Jeff (Donna) Reed; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Pat Reed.
