Michael Allan Preston

Michael Allan Preston, 71 of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Nebraska Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was on dialysis for the last three years and was undergoing his second open heart surgery before he passed. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 6, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Michael was born the son of Harry and Nellie Preston on August 11, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Riverside High School in 1972.

Mike met his childhood sweetheart Mary Coy at the age of 14. They were introduced by Mike’s older brother Stu and Mary’s older sister Teresa. Mike and Mary were married November 11, 1972 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne, Nebraska. He was a very loving husband and they would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in November.

Mike worked at Interbake Foods for many years in a variety of roles until his retirement at age 60. He was a very hard worker and befriended many coworkers throughout the years.

He was a hands on father, never missed sporting events, parent teacher conferences, school activities, boy scouts, and was his son’s baseball coach.

He loved life, animals, spending time with his extended family on yearly family vacations, the outdoors, playing golf, fishing, and camping. He liked listening to music especially The Beatles, live concerts, and riding his motorcycle.

He was a man of deep faith, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1980, having converted to Catholicism in 2004.

Mike is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Mary Preston of Sioux City; children, Jenny (Bobby) Kinsella of Easton, MA and David (Shelly) Preston of Kingston, WA; grandchildren, Shelby and Rob; brothers, Jeff Preston and Joe Preston; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Andy, Stu, Janel, and Jack.
