Micheal J. "Mick" Persinger, 81, of Ponca, NE, passed away March 15, 2023. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Mick was born July 30, 1941 in South Sioux City, NE., to Red and Helen Persinger. He was the 7th of 11 children. Mick joined the U.S. Navy in 1959, serving through 1962. Part of this service was in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Topeka (CL-67) maintaining target drones. He married Susan Pender in California 1962. They moved to South Sioux City, NE in 1964. To this union, four children were born.
In 1972 he married Mary B Welke in Springview, NE.
Mick worked on the Burlington Railroad for many years before becoming an electrician. He worked as a union electrician for more than forty years at Red's Electric, Triple H and O'Dell to name a few, before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion, I.B.E.W., Trailblazers Saddle Club, Ponca Rodeo Assoc. and a founding member of the Boozer Gang.
He loved his children and grandchildren. He was a PROUD American and Union man. He liked to laugh, sing and dance. Sometimes all at once. He was fun, he will be missed.
He is survived by his children: Jeff (Lorri) Persinger, Pam Persinger, Ann Marie Persinger and Bill (Heather) Persinger; grandchildren: Thomas, Eric, and Bryce Persinger, Reilly and Sean Mahon, Oliver Persinger, Erin, Emily and Eli Persinger; his siblings: Mary (Walt) Cakebread, Richard Persinger, Nancy (Orville) Cakebread, and Gene (Patty) Persinger; Special Friends: Mitch Johnson and Paulette Kosinski.
