Michael Joseph Norton,64, of Sioux City, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at a local hospital, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of everyone who knew him.

A Memorial Service to honor Michael's life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Born on February 10, 1961, in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Patricia (Bernard) Norton, Michael dedicated his life to the values of kindness, acceptance, and the joy of sharing knowledge with others. Educated at North High School and furthering his studies at WITCC, Michael's thirst for knowledge matched his passion for life.

Michael's career was as a Diesel and Small Engine Mechanic, and he also worked at the Sioux City Wastewater Treatment Plant. He married Dawn Carlson on October 22, 1988, in Sioux City and the couple had two children. Though they were no longer together, they shared their love of their children, Michelle and Logan.

His hobbies included computers, an avid fisherman, camping, and exploring nature; these pursuits were complemented by an extensive love for mushroom hunting and treasures found metal detecting. However, it was his family that truly meant everything to him. He cherished every moment shared with his loved ones, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Michael is survived by his two beloved children, Logan Norton of Tea, SD, and Michelle Pineda of Sioux City. He leaves behind his father, Robert Norton of Sioux City, and siblings: Bruce Norton (Kaye Martin) of CA, Suzanne (Ronnie) VanDeventer of Sioux City, Don (Margaret) Norton of Rapid City, Tim (Maggie) Norton of MN, and Diann Norton of MN, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Patricia Norton, and his brother, Rick Norton.

As we celebrate Michael's life, let us remember his gentle spirit, kind heart, and the everlasting impact he had on all of us—reminding us to cherish our relationships, embrace each day with gratitude, and find joy in the simple pleasures of life. His legacy will continue to inspire those who loved him dearly.

I just want to take a brief moment to acknowledge the importance of mental health, life can be overwhelming at times, and it's ok to not be ok.  Taking care of your mental wellbeing is just as important as physical health.  If you ever feel like you are struggling, please know you are not alone and there are resources in people who care and want to help. Reaching out is a sign of strength not weakness.
