Michael L. Hofmeister

Michael L. Hofmeister, 74 of Omaha formerly of Dakota City, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026. A memorial visitation will be Monday, January 12, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a time of sharing at 7:00 P.M. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral home in South Sioux City.

Michael was born the son of Carlton and Doris (Cornell) Hofmeister on May 25, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and then attended auto mechanic classes at WIT. Michael married Ilene Rasmussen on December 29, 1992. They made their home in Dakota City until moving to Omaha about 8 years ago.

Mike worked in maintenance for CF Industries for 44 years until his retirement. He was proud to have worked with them for as long as he did. He also volunteered with the South Sioux City Fire Department for 9 years and served as President from 1985 to 1986.

Mike enjoyed bowling and watching NASCAR. He was a proud Army veteran and thanking fellow veterans for their honorable service was very important to him.

Michael is survived by his wife, Ilene Hofmeister of Omaha; children, Mike (Kim) Hofmeister of Pender, Cory (Steph) Hofmeister of North Sioux City, Taylor (Nick) Zimmerman of Omaha, and Everett (Ashton) Hofmeister of Emerson; 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild; siblings, Carlton (Debbie) Hofmeister II, Char (Gabriel) Rodriguez, and Kathy (Tom) Robinson; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Irene Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, Jim Osbahr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leanna Osbahr; father-in-law, Virgil Rasmussen; and brother-in-law, Troy Rasmussen.
